Sidewalk Labs - Neighborhood of the Future

Sidewalk Labs is an urban innovation company that helps cities tackle their biggest challenges. They are working on a Waterfront Toronto project to build a "Neighborhood of the Future" on the eastern waterfront. This project aims to reduce commute times, make housing more affordable, and create a new standard for a healthier planet.

The tour of the site will include an interactive digital model of the project, and a Mass Timber Installation of the plans! It is a site worth seeing, particularly for those in Building Sciences, Architecture, and Building Engineering!

Please be 10-15 minutes early to the event. Transportation will not be provided.

The company’s innovative deep lake-water cooling system uses cold water from Lake Ontario as its clean, renewable and reliable cooling source.

Portlands Energy Centre Tour

470 Unwin Ave, Toronto, ON

Join us for a tour of the Portlands Energy Centre (PEC), a 550 MW combined cycle power generating station located in the heart of the GTA. PEC uses natural gas to run two turbines as well as steam from waste heat to run a steam turbine generator, producing safe, clean, efficient and reliable electricity for the City of Toronto. Not only will you get up close and personal with utility-sized generators, you will also meet employees from various departments at PEC and learn what it's like to have a career in the power sector. PEC is located at 470 Unwin Ave in Toronto’s Port Lands. Tour will occur on Thursday October 3rd and runs from 8:30am (sharp!) to 1pm. Please plan to arrive at PEC around 15 minutes before the tour begins.
